Juuken Sentai Gekiranger - Series Details

29 12 2006

null

Here are some series details, courtesy of Wikipedia:

The story of Gekiranger features two opposing sides of the same school of martial arts, the Juuken style, which allows one to control the anguish in their minds. The good form of Beast-Fist style is known as Geki Juuken Beast Arts , Geki Jūken Bīsuto Ātsu?, Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts) and is taught by Master Shā Fū. The evil form of the Beast-Fist style is known as Rin Juuken Akugata (Overlooking Beast-Fist Evil Style) and they are commanded by the Rin Juu Lord (Overlooking Beast Lord). To fight the opposing school, Shā Fū chooses three of his students: Jan Kandou, Ran Uzaki, and Retsu Fukami. Becoming the Gekirangers, they confront the Rin Juuken school.

Gekirangers
Jan Kandou (GekiRed)
The Unbreakable Body.
He will be represented by a red tiger.

Ran Uzaki (GekiYellow)
The Honest Heart.
She will be represented by a yellow cheetah.

Retsu Fukami (GekiBlue)
The Fantastic Technique.
He will be represented by a blue jaguar.

Allies
Juuken Teacher, Master Shā Fū
He is the mentor of the Gekirangers and is master of an unknown form of martial arts. He appears to be an aged anthropomorphic cat with large ears (very likely a caracal cat).

And here’s a breakdown of the crew that’ll be bringing it, courtesy of THE Shougo B’Stard:

Creator: Saburou Hatte

Project overseer (?): Takeyuki Suzuki (this guy produced a lot of the sentais from the good ol’ days, but lately has just slapped his name on mediocre works like Dekaranger to try and fool the old-schoolers)

Producers: Seiji Yagi (TV Asahi)
Hideaki Tsukada (Toei producer; chief producer of Dekaranger and Magiranger)
Kouichi Yada (Toei Agency)

Chief writer: Michiko Yokote (she’s written fillers for Dekaranger and Magiranger; some of her Deka ones weren’t too bad. The episodes she’s written from Deka are Running Hero, Cool Passion, Discipline March, Swat Mode On, Mother Universe, Goldbadge Education, Accidental Present, Fireball Succession; For Magiranger, she wrote stages 8, 11, 12, 15, 19, 21, 25, 26, 29, 30, 33, 34, 39, 40, 47, 48). Judge for yourself how you think Gekiranger might shape up.

Chief director: Shoujirou Nakazawa (has directed random episodes of all of the 2000+ sentai series, but has never been a chief director)

Music: Kazunori Miyake (composer of Hurricanger and Kamen Rider Blade)

Photographer: Fumio Matsumoto, Shingo Oozawa

Character designs: Tamotsu Shinohara (villain designer of Turboranger, Fiveman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Ryuki, Faiz, Magiranger, and Boukenger) & Masaru Matsui

Action director: Hirofumi Ishigaki (chief action director of Dekaranger, Magiranger, and Boukenger)

OP theme “Juuken Sentai Gekiranger” performed by Takayoshi Tanimoto (singer of Zatch Bell themes)

ED theme “Tao” by Ichirou Mizuki, the Anisong King!

Skull Man the Anime

28 12 2006

null

If Kamen Rider were to have a dark and older brother, he would be… The Skull Man. While Kamen Rider was in development in 1970 by Shotaro Ishinomori, The Skull Man was born. Too dark and sinister for a kids show, Ishinomori splintered the character off and made him into his own manga, while Kamen Rider went ahead to forge his own path of justice. The Skull Man was later reborn and released in a collaboration between Ishinomori and his protege`, Kazuhiko Shimamoto in 1998, which you can actuall score here in the US, courtesy of TokyoPop.

And now an anime is coming down the pipe. Little is known, but the website has been launched. More as it breaks, so stay tuned to your local Justice Channel.

Kamen Rider Den-O - Series Details

26 12 2006

null

Looks like some details have surfaced about the upcoming KR Series. First off we have creator credits. The most notable being the return of Yasuko Kobayashi, the woman behind TimeRanger and Kamen Rider Ryuki, so either bow your head in anguish or raise your fists up and rejoice!

Here’s the breakdown, courtesy of The B’Stard:

“Creator: Shotaro Ishinomori

Chief writer: Yasuko Kobayashi (chief writer of Ryuki; also Gingaman & Timeranger)

Producers: Atsushi Kaji (TV Asahi producer, worked on Kabuto, Hibiki; Shin’ichirou Shirakura (producer of Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Kabuto and was replacement producer on Hibiki); Naomi Takebe

Action director: Takeshi Miyazaki (action director of Ryuki through Kabuto)

SFX director: Hiroshi Butsuda (SFX director of pretty much every Toei toku since ‘90)

Chief director: Ryuta Tasaki (chief director of Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, and Sh15uya. Also directed episodes of Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, and Kamen Rider Kabuto. Directed Rider movies Project G4, Episode Final, and Paradise Lost).

Creature designs: Yasushi Nirasawa (designer of Blade’s Undeads and Kabuto’s Worms)”

Next up we got some description translations of the first couple episodes, courtesy of Filadelfo:

“An unlucky photographer. With his own invention, the celloscope (or zero scope, I’m not sure) he is the first to discover the gate to the Kaima (Commanding Demon) World.

The world’s unluckiest cameraman. No matter what, everything he does turns out bad. He lives with a policy of “One-day-one-good action” and can’t leave someone in trouble if he can do something, the typical nice guy.
After a strange concidence he gets possesed by a monster and his luck gets even worse…
His favourite food are peaches.

Episode 1 (Janurary 28)
Rushing reporter Noue Yoshitaro. Looking for the truth behind a lie he snuck into the subway station after the last train left and what he found there was two strange beings fighting and a train he had never seen, the Super Train Den Liner. Yoshitaro got into the middle of the fight and ran into the Den Liner to escape; there, a voice informed him about what was going on. Then Yoshitaro received a boarding ticket for the Den Liner.

Episode 2 (February 4)
Yoshitaro, who had been merged with one of the beings got off the Grand Liner and ran. Convincing himself that everything was a dream, Yoshitaro finds that his only family, his grandparents have vanished and his sempai, Kaori Isagi has been kidnapped by a monster. Having no means to go after the monster and running out of ideas, Yoshitaro decides and passes his ticket to summon the Den Liner.

Episode 3 (February 11)
After saving Kaori, everything is solved and the normal everyday is back, or so would think Yoshitaro when he again finds himself between two Imagines. Just as the last time, the two Imagines start to fight. The Imagine holding a big axe seems to have some information and has a very hard fight against the bear-shaped Imagine. Yoshitaro transforms into Den-O and assists the axe-holding Imagine in fight.”

This sounds pretty cool, but I’m gonna miss Kabuto sooooo much… :(

Merry Christmas: Kamen Rider Dragon Knight… TRAILER!!!

24 12 2006

It looks like Christmas came early this year, cuz we got a leaked trailer for the KR Dragon Knight pilot that’s being put together by Steve Wang and his band of heroes.

Now, make note… this is not an official trailer. You can tell from that lil’ time stamp thingie and I’m pretty sure that the sound and music are not the final that’ll be used. This is to show investors so that we can finally get a full blown show put out here in the Western countries. It probably won’t be online for long once the Powers That Be find out about it, so check it out as soon as you can. From what I’ve seen, goddamn does this look nice! Definately a far cry from the 90’s Masked Rider with a focus on action and epic story telling (no Ferbus! Yay!). This is our first shot to get Kamen Rider back in America and done right. Click and enjoy and show your support.

Only you and the Mirror Knights stand in the way of General Zaviax and his coming horde. Heaven help those who come in our way. O__O

Happy Holidays from Henshin Justice Unlimited!!!

22 12 2006

The clock fast ticks down to the zero hour where soon presents will be opened and the coming year will be celebrated. Here are some pretty interesting scans of the up coming Kamen Rider Den-O that you can find both here, here, aaaaand over here as well. Most interesting thing I find in this bunch if a fairly formidable looking monster! While Kamen Rider’s always been a favorite of mine, I’ve yet to see a series that has a badguy worth a damn. Someone as cool as Hurricanger’s badass Seven Dark Spears. Last I heard, Black was the last Rider Series to truely have one helluva badguy in the form of the mysterious, Shadowmoon.

Check out this baddy for Den-O and let’s hope we get a straight up bad motherfucker villian in 2007.

I’ve noticed that Kamen Rider’s first throwdown is usually either with a spider monster or a bat monster of some type, so this monster could just be that. Just the first throwdown, but I’m hoping for a diabolical mastermind that gives the hero a run for his money the entire series.

And that’s about it for that. Just a few more hours and I’m home free for the weekend and vacation. ‘Til then I found this awesome video that speaks of the bond between men. It’s from the British TV Series, SPACED, brought to you by the guy that direction Shuan of the Dead and who is set to direct the movie of my new favorite comic book, Scott Pilgrim. Along with checking out the phenomenal Scott Pilgrim, you might wanna check out the Oni Press’s tokusatsu manga, Sharknife. It’s about a kid who changes into a ninja using fortune cookies, to protect a restraunt on Red-Ranger Street… seriously. v-devil of the forums highly recommends it.

Well, that’ll do for now. Hope you enjoyed the update and I hope you enjoy the video just as much. I bought the DVD set, but my dumbass didn’t factor for the unhackable PAL Region coding. I’ll figure out a way to watch it eventually.

‘Til then, Happy Holidays and I’ll see you all next week!

HJU Review - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
By: Trevor Monaghan
[[Spoilers Follow]]

A man extends his hand to shake that of a legendary hero. Instead the hero ignores him and walks out the door. The Hero is Naked Snake recently promoted to the rank of Big Boss, the man is the Director of the CIA. This slight was meant to serve as Metal Gear Solid 3’s way of showing how Big Boss went from national hero to the series primary villain…. It wasn’t enough. For those of you who played through MGS3 you know that Snakes mentor “THE BOSS” sacrificed her life to Snake under orders from the US to prevent an armed conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union, the knowledge that he was used as an assassin in a covert op with out knowing the full details were supposed to serve as the basis for Snakes evolution to villain, but as I said…. this weak story and the hours of Ocelot juggling proved to not be enough for fans of the series.

The Nintendo Wii… IN JAPAN!!!

18 12 2006

4 Color Rebellion is one of my favorite sites and definately influential in the design of this here front page. Thanks to them I got pointed in the direction of such awesome comic books as Scott Pilgrm and found what was once a pretty good podcast. Eventually it went to crap, but one thing that always made it worth it, was Vinnk’s “Rebel in Japan” segments, where he recounts his life and times in the land of the rising sun.

The podcast is gone for now, but Vinnk still recorded this track talking about the coming of the Nintendo Wii in Japan. Since we’re all lovers of that faraway land, I thought you all would wanna have a listen.

Click here to check out the article or download the podcast.
