Koichi Sakamoto's Travelers: Dimension Police Set for Japan Screens
Details emerged, via Diverse Japan and other outlets, on Travelers: Dimension Police, a sci-fi action film directed by longtime tokusatsu action director Koichi Sakamoto. The film stars actress and singer Nao Nagasawa and actress and model Ayumi Kinoshita as members of an interdimensional police force, alongside Yuko Takayama, Kenji Ebisawa, and Kentaro Shimazu, with a screenplay by Sotaro Hayashi.
The story follows an investigator named Ai, the Space Guardian Academy’s top agent, and her android partner Bridge, assigned to stop an inter-cosmic terrorist group called DOUBT following the confirmed discovery of three parallel worlds and inter-cosmic travel.
Sakamoto reportedly began developing the project as a proof-of-concept video in 2008; principal filming began in Taiwan in March 2012 and wrapped a month later. The film premiered as one of five titles at the American Film Market in 2012 and was set for a limited Japan theatrical release beginning the week of April 13, 2013.
Sakamoto, co-founder of Alpha Stunts, has more than twenty years of credits as a stuntman, action coordinator, choreographer, producer, and director, including work on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers alongside Jeff Pruitt and as a second-unit director on VR Troopers. His other directing and action-coordination credits include Drive, Steve Wang’s Guyver: Dark Hero, Devon’s Ghost, Gedo: Fatal Blade, High Voltage, Extreme Heist, and Broken Path.
