Miniature Mayhem: Continuing Tokusatsu’s Tradition

Miniature Mayhem: Continuing Tokusatsu’s Tradition

Last week I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with Lobsterdance Production's very own Jared P. Foust. If in case you're not familiar with Lobsterdance, remember some time ago there was a series by the name of "Ultraman Sorta", a tongue in cheek comedy about the misadventures inspired by the high intensity episodic battle series known as Ultraman? I know that was long winded, but it's hard not to get excited about tokusatsu. Jared is not only a fan of tokusatsu, but carries the torch of practical film effects and film scale models to bring fantasy to life on film. Over the years he's gone above and beyond sharpening his skills in all things miniature cinematography. As part of this project to promote independent film for The Texas Toku Taisen, I thought it would be awesome to pic...

Power Rangers Actors Gather To Make Fan Film

News
Over on Indiegogo ex-Ranger actor Michael Copon, better known as Lucas from Power Rangers Time Force, works away on a fan project to top all others.  With so much buzz around the Power Rangers fandom after the Joseph Kahn "Power/Rangers" fan film, it was only a matter of time before we as fans got what we really want: a film by the ex-rangers, for fans. The "Independent Power Ranger Movie" Project, as it is tentatively titled, will feature Copon "going back in time to convince Wes to join forces with him on this mission to save the world", along with many Ranger alum "not [set] in the universe of Power Rangers". Unlike the previously mentioned fan film, the mix of an interesting story combined with tongue in cheek humor about the Power Rangers canon shines like the Lights of Orion as...

Artists in Tokusatsu: Hand-made Henshin Love

As henshin hero fans, we know the struggle is nigh to find the right gifts that express who we are and what our community is about. An S.H. Figuart for your pops may sometimes be met with a head scratch and awkward glance. Even more so we would love to adorn our walls with all sorts of pieces that express the love for the mechs, the grown ups in spandex standing as a bastion for justice around the world, and the epic kaiju battles they fought to maintain that order. Well, let's spend a moment to talk about artists we see in our community giving us amazing wall art, keeping us warm with Rider scarves, and everything in between. (more…)

Yoshi Sudarso, Dino Charge Blue, Talks Shuriken Sentai

News
The tokusatsu community is atwitter with the normal rumors that circulate during the mid season mark of an incumbent Super Sentai season. As one toku fan to another, I'd advise taking them with a grain of salt, but we both know we love trying to forecast what series, toys, tropes, and themes will be up next. This year with the trademark confirmation of a "Shuriken Sentai Ninninger" (source Anime News Network), it's only natural to feel the wanton desire for another ninja sentai team. Let's face it, Hurricanger 10 Years After was phenomenal. Well the recent dousing of gas to the toku speculation fire comes from an very unexpected source. Yoshi Sudarso, actor of the upcoming Power Rangers adaptation of Kyoryuger, Power Rangers Dino Charge, took to his personal Facebook with the fervor ...

We’re All Heroes! Combo Ranger Review!

News
With great art direction, upbeat characters, and a quick story, Combo Rangers has a bit of something for everyone in their tokusatsu journey. We review Combo Rangers issue 1 and talk about all of the awesome displays of henshin heroism. Henshin heroism is the norm here on the threads and posts here on Henshin Justice. We admire all of the exploits of the grown ups in spandex who've made a 38 year tradition of kicking all sorts of kaijin butt in Japan. All of that inspiration, the tropes of the heroes, and how they've found their ways subtly into the world's culture with adaptations, nation specific releases, and awesome comic books like this one: Combo Rangers. Funny enough I find this first issue the way I first found myself aged 3 on my first watch of "Day of the Dumpster". There is...
