UPDATE: Shout! Factory confirmed earlier this year their official release of Seijuu Sentai Gingaman coming in 2018. The original story follows. Shout! Factory has been kicking ass and taking names these past few years, putting out one quality release after another from the worlds of Power Rangers, Super Sentai, and other tokusatsu titles. Continuing their trend of releasing each yearly Super Sentai series, beginning from 1992's Kryoryu Sentai Zyuranger (from which Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was adapted), we now have 1998's Seijuu Sentai Gingaman (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy) to add to the growing Sentai pantheon. At least we think we do. With no official release date announcement from Shout, we only have the brief Amazon listing for the DVD set to go on. Which means the releas...

Kyuranger Goes Metal as One Ranger Gets More Than a Lion’s Share of Fun

It's been a while since I could say that I was loving both the current Kamen Rider series and the current Super Sentai at once. More often than not, the recipe is off for one or the other. And while I'm no Spada, I'd say that Uchu Sentai Kyuranger's blend of wacky fantasy and epic drama provides a well-Balanced meal for my tokusatsu soul. Let's catch up on recent events with this show, and wonder what we did to deserve them. When last we discussed Kyuranger, our terminally red hero Lucky was about to jump into the past to join the time-displaced portion of this ever-growing team of space adventurers, once again proving that even time travel can't keep Red off the screen for more than a few seconds in a row. It's for a good reason, but one can't help but notice how continuously Lucky (...
Sentai vs Sentai in 2018?!

Sentai vs Sentai in 2018?!

News, Super Sentai, Toku
In an odd turn of events, Toei Company has filed trademarks for two different names for the next Super Sentai series coming in 2018! The confirmed trademarks state that the teams will be known as Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger, and Kaito Sentai Lupinranger. Now, as the names indicate, the 2018 Super Sentai series may/will feature two teams pit against one another; a team of cops (Patoranger) versus a team of thieves (Lupinranger)! However, this could also just be a similar case to Ninpu Sentai Hurricanger, where the team consisted of two groups, the initial three Hurricangers and the two secondary Gouraigers. It may be too soon to tell what these names really indicate, but interest in the series is quickly building. Once other details are confirmed, updates will follow, so please stay t...

Review: Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger DX Saiko Kyutama

Review: Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger DX Saiko Kyutama

Super Sentai, Toku, Toys
Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger has been running for 30 episodes and the Kyutama gimmick has been stale for a while now, but thankfully the Saiko Kyutama changes the game! This Kyutama is huge and stylized to really stand out from the bunch with its red coloring and beautiful blue ring. It also has its own electronics but unlike the Hikari Kyutama that tried (and failed) to work its sounds in tandem with the Seiza Blaster, the Saiko Kyutama tells the Seiza Blaster to sit back, relax and let it handle all the awesome new sounds. So what can it do? Well, for starters we have 5 attacks with just the Kyutama itself, these have yet to be seen in the show (as of this recording) so we don't know what they do just yet. After you insert it into the Seiza Blaster (or hold the button down with your fin...

2017 has been a year of highs and lows for me as a tokusatsu fan. At one end of the aisle, there were heavy hitters. Big surprises and reinvention, breathing new life into what had seemed a little too routine of late. At the other end, we had some duds. Weak efforts with minimal creativity and just no drive to wow us. Sometimes those two things would happen back-to-back within the same franchise! Amid all the chaos emerged a title seeking to recapture my heart when it appeared all but lost in the shuffle of rotating monsters, morphers, and mecha. Let's take a closer look at Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger, and see where it ranks on the scale so far. Not gonna lie, when this show first premiered, I completely gushed. We're finally going where Super Sentai has never gone before, taking the franc...
