‘Contra’ Video Game Adaptation: Guns VS Aliens On The Big Screen

In the late 1980s, Contra wore out the television sets of gamers the world over, as commandos Bill and Lance (the Schwarzenegger and Stallone of the video game universe) ripped through a landscape of deadly traps and weapons platforms designed to take them out before they could do the same to the enemy. Now, many years and several reincarnations later, the classic shoot-em-up is finally getting its time to shine (or something) on the big screen with a new film project, as well as a TV series. Like the non-stop actionfest that was the 1987 original, this adaptation is going all out. For better or for worse. Original game developer Konami joins forces with China's Starlight Media to bring the game to life. Many details remain a mystery, though CFI provides this brief synopsis: ...

Earth of the future has become a smoldering den of kaiju in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, the new animated feature from Polygon Pictures and creature-feature titan Toho. In Mobile Suit Gundam, Pacific Rim, and Super Sentai, giant robots wreak havoc across burning landscapes under flashes of lightning and the roar of mechanized battlecries passionately echoing across their battlefields. The concept of such a thing happening in reality seems farfetched and fraught with so many potential problems that it makes the pursuit of such a future seem like it may not really be worth the effort. Enter MegaBots Inc., who puts forth the effort so we don't have to, to results that, if nothing else, are certainly interesting. In 2015, the tech company issued a challenge to Japan's Suidobashi Heavy Industry to do battle, pitting the giant robots representing each group against each other. Despite the fact that this is clearly insane, they agreed, and so the fight was ...

Fullmetal Alchemist, the story that refuses to die, will not stop until it's inhabited every entertainment medium known to man, twice. Inspired by the original manga from Arakawa Hiromu, the journey of two brothers in a fantastical world has been chronicled multiple times in animated form, to rapturous praise by many, and critical side-eyes by a few. We imagine the same will be the case when their latest incarnation, in the form of this new live-action film, comes to the big screen this December. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NRt4keIZZk I haven't seen more than a few episodes of the anime years ago (shut up, I know) but, at the very least, the film looks visually striking. The effects work is far beyond what I'd expected to see, and the scenery and costumes are all lovely. Apparentl...
