N.Y. Maxman is gearing up for another pass. The third in the Maxman comedy action series, continuing their trend of hiring basically everyone you've ever seen in any recent Kamen Rider and Super Sentai production known to man, had its film festival debut in April 2017. Now, the tokusatsu superhero send-up returns to Japanese theaters next month, offering another chance for fans of the subgenre to see some of their recent favorites on the big screen. For the unfamiliar, the series began in 2015 with Mr. Maxman, starring Chiba Yudai aka angelic warrior GoseiRed of Tensou Sentai Goseiger as a sad sack news presenter who just can't catch a break, until he discovers a pair of glasses that give him amazing powers. The 2017 sequel Bros. Maxman, as the name implies, follows Maxman's brother i...

It's funny. I started out reviewing Kamen Rider Build under the assumption that, at some point, it would be less necessary to discuss each episode of the series on an individual basis. Like with most entries into the Kamen Rider franchise (to say nothing of its counterparts in Super Sentai), I expected that we'd eventually reach a point where installments would feel less substantial and thus, waiting a while between reviews would make perfect sense. Nope! Kamen Rider Build has consistently flipped the script on our expectations, bringing new and exciting twists on its narrative week after week, leaving very little room for its fans to lose interest as we barrel through toward the finish line. Before the show's brief hiatus, we were left on a cliffhanger that spelled potential doom for...

Power Rangers fans who tuned into the premiere episode of the new Star Trek: Discovery got a surprise late last year when one of their own from the spandex-sheathed superhero saga appeared aboard the bridge of the USS Shenzhou as a Starfleet Officer. Chris Violette, known best to many of us here at Henshin Justice Unlimited as Blue Ranger Sky Tate from Power Rangers SPD, had a guest-starring role on the 2017 space opera, as an officer in the star-spanning United Federation of Planets. Not the biggest leap from his job aboard SPD, where he was also a man in uniform, fighting to protect the innocent from the weird and wondrous alien threats of the future. We hoped we might see Violette again on Discovery, but after the events of its two-part opener, many believed we had closed the book on ...

POWER RANGERS HYPERFORCE Almost Traded Yellow for Black

Love it or hate it, Power Rangers HyperForce continues its story on streaming behemoth Twitch, serving as its own unique storytelling platform with its cast of role-playing gamers, setting out on an imaginative quest through time and space to save the world in this Hyper RPG series you won't find on television. And while the cast already includes two alumni from the Saban Brands TV franchise (Peter Sudarso of Power Rangers Ninja Steel, Paul Schrier of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and more), along with a number of special guests, Hyperforce originally packed even more Ranger star power, in the form of Ciara Hanna. In 2013's Power Rangers Megaforce, Hanna played Yellow Ranger Gia, the closest thing the recent era of the long-running franchise has to a Teenager with Attitude. But before Han...
