Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War promises to be the largest collection of iconic, larger-than-life heroes the landscape of live-action cinema has ever seen. But what if things had been just a little bit different? What if the world needed saving not by the cape-flapping, shield-tossing likes of the Avengers, but by some other Disney icons? We all know their names. We hear their footsteps and tremble. Straight out of the vault, they've begun their march toward victory against the terror of Thanos and his horde of deadly minions. It's the Walt Disney cartoons! And they're here to do some avenging. For the five people left alive who haven't seen it, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropped last week and quickly broke records on streaming giant Youtube for the most views in the sh...

Mazinger Z / Infinity is the latest feature in the beloved Mazinger manga and anime franchise, bursting with nostalgic adventure to what they hope will be the delight of old fans and new. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Mazinger saga, and the 50th anniversary of creator Nagai Go's contributions as a manga artist, the film offers more super robot action to dazzle any newcomer, peppered with some familiar touchstones for those who know what to look out for. Along with the new trailer's dynamic visuals and sonic assault blasting us with the fantastical whimsy of the story on display, we get a sample of "The Last Letter". To play as the film's ending song, the piece is sung by none other than Kikkawa Kouji, who many of us here at Henshin Justice Unlimited remember fondly as the Bo...

Infini-T Force: When Worlds Collide – The Journey So Far

When the lead heroes of four of Tatsunoko Productions' most beloved anime series are plucked from their separate stories and thrown into the CG animated blender that is Infini-T Force, the result is a surprisingly sensitive, character-focused musing on life, which just happens to have a truckload of explosions. Having been fed a steady diet of the shake-and-bake battle marathons of the tokusatsu subgenre, where some crossovers are more about how many collectible toys can be mixed and matched between the characters than how any of their lives may be affected by it all, this was a refreshing ride. That's not to ignore the many times heroes of Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and the like gather up from their respective continuities and tear up the battlefield. Indeed, many of those a...

It's a foregone conclusion that any sufficiently epic movie from Japan will, at some point leading up to its release, put out a trailer with a seemingly random pop music track suddenly bursting through our speakers. As cities come alight with atomic fire and buildings are toppled around fleeing citizens, someone, somewhere is belting her heart out about love and happiness to a jaunty club beat. It's just the way of the world. And so, here we are, with the arrival of the official music video for XAI's "WHITE OUT", theme song to Toho's latest in a long line of kaiju flicks, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. We got our first taste of this song a while back when the film's recent trailer dropped, though I'll forgive you if it slipped your mind. I know it slipped mine, since the visuals of...

Prepare to free your mind, as the popular Mob Psycho 100 manga is now being adapted to live-action. Courtesy of ONE, of One-Punch Man fame, the original web-comic series has already taken the anime world by storm, and now, with help from some friends in the explosive worlds of Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and more, the property is set to make its live-action debut on Netflix. In the lead role, as psychic middle schooler Mob, is Tatsuomi Hamada, best known to some as Riku, the title hero of Ultraman Geed. It may come as no surprise that Hamada was chosen for the part, considering both Geed and Mob Psycho share the same series director in Koichi Sakamoto, whose street cred stretches far and wide in the live-action special effects genre, from Power Rangers and Super Sentai to ...

Voltron: Legendary Defender is back at it, with another burst of hilarity and excitement in the show's fourth season on Netflix. And, as we hunkered down to catch up with the heroic, space-faring Paladins of Voltron and their robotic lions, we were treated to a special episode that some of us in the tokusatsu fandom couldn't help but find a bit familiar. While there are plenty easy comparisons to be made between them and the multi-colored Teenagers With Attitude of the live-action Power Rangers franchise (and their Super Sentai cousins from across the pond), none would be so bold as with this season's striking fourth episode, "The Voltron Show". We're not just throwing shade, folks. We're launching it out of a circus cannon to the tune of a full-scale marching band. And the result, true ...

Game of Thrones: The Anime – Winter is Animated

The war for the Iron Throne just got a little more epic, with this fun opening credits sequence from French Youtuber Malec. Inspired by the wildly popular fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, this interprets the battle to save Westeros, and the many dramatic turns it takes, in a fashion only Japanese animation can deliver. Or at least something like it. Check out the fan-made opening credits sequence here, but newcomers be warned. There be spoilers in these waters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efD3nmwF-IM I love that the music, while evoking the typical sound of classic anime openers, also adopts the style of the actual Game of Thrones theme, one of the most iconic of its kind. Interspersing Japanese lyrics with seemingly random English adds the perfect touch. Particularly the phra...
