Classic hero Redman continues his march toward revival in the new comic series courtesy of Tsuburaya Productions and Godzilla comic superstar Matt Frank. And a new preview of the action within its pages has dropped, giving us a glimpse into what lies ahead for the yellow-eyed monster-fighter. As mentioned earlier this month, Redman was a live-action special effects series in which the SIA Officer Sokomizu merges with the spirit of an alien refugee to become the armor-clad warrior who defends Earth from all manner of otherworldly beast. He returns to us from the vault of lost heroes, opened once again by Ultraman creators Tsuburaya Productions. The new sequential art piece comes from Frank's Tumblr page, featuring one of the tokusatsu hero's famous catchphrases. Redman is seen ta...

Mazinger Z / Infinity is the latest feature in the beloved Mazinger manga and anime franchise, bursting with nostalgic adventure to what they hope will be the delight of old fans and new. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Mazinger saga, and the 50th anniversary of creator Nagai Go's contributions as a manga artist, the film offers more super robot action to dazzle any newcomer, peppered with some familiar touchstones for those who know what to look out for. Along with the new trailer's dynamic visuals and sonic assault blasting us with the fantastical whimsy of the story on display, we get a sample of "The Last Letter". To play as the film's ending song, the piece is sung by none other than Kikkawa Kouji, who many of us here at Henshin Justice Unlimited remember fondly as the Bo...

Fan films are tricksy. Especially those based upon anime properties, which themselves come with a style and a vibe that seems near impossible to replicate without sacrificing something that makes the original great. And yet, those of us who love these titles, who have the passion to express that adoration creatively, keep persisting. With this in mind, we dive into Dragon Ball Z: Light of Hope, the new fan film release that dropped this week to a crowd of eager viewers. Based upon the wildly popular Dragonball franchise, its genesis in the manga series from famed creator Akira Toriyama, which then went on to become one of the most widely-known Japanese animated titles in the medium's history, with several sequels and countless films and specials. Light of Hope takes is cues from The H...

Having worked for years in the world of comics, Matt Frank has touched many beloved brands, including Transformers and Wrath of the Titans, adding his gloriously epic touch to many fantasy worl...

2017 has been a banner year for the Power Rangers brand. With a line of successful comics from Boom! Studios, a new web-based RPG series debuting this week, the television branch still trucking after all these years, and a whole slew of merchandise waiting to be scooped up by Ranger fans young and old, the franchise would appear to be firing on all cylinders. Unless, of course, you have a glance at Saban's Power Rangers, the Lionsgate film that released in theaters earlier this year to mixed reactions. While many of us loved the Rangers' latest cinematic offering, there may be some who see this particular branch of the franchise as one that can be cut off at the base. Trademarkia lists the logo for Saban's Power Rangers as abandoned by original owners SCG Power Rangers LLC. Which woul...

‘Kamen Rider W: Fuuto Detectives’ Knows Which Way The Wind Blows

In the summer of 2010, tokusatsu fans said goodbye to the lovable heroes of the Narumi Detective Agency, and the many wacky denizens of Fuuto City, when Kamen Rider W came to an end. Of course, several appearances occurred after that, but the loss of this pulpy action-noir world in regular doses was perhaps felt more strongly for some than with most other titles in the Kamen Rider pantheon. While the tradition of a new Kamen Rider taking up the spotlight from the old with each passing year continued to be observed, introducing us to many wondrous new facets of this crazy franchise, there was always a special place in my heart for the two-in-one detectives, Shotaro and Phillip, and their quest to rid the city of dangerous contraband known as Gaia Memories. It's with this thought in min...

Hold onto your Pocky, anime fans. Batman is coming back to the Japanese animation world with an all-new project, descending upon us in 2018. This time, he brings with him a pool of talent that gave us the likes of the animated Afro Samurai as well as the special effects actioner Kamen Rider Fourze. While Batman inches one step closer to his apparent goal of filling every possible screen on every continent at the exact same time, here's a brief rundown of what we know so far. This feature-length anime, titled simply Batman Ninja, is the work of director Mizusaki Junpei, whose talents were brought to several MegaMan X video games before landing a producing gig with the popular JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Joining him is Nakashima Kazuki, best known to some of us as a lead writer f...

Justice League Comic vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Comic: Who Won The Week?

This week, I read a fun comic book packed with everything I wanted out of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, from exciting action to cool character moments, and an interesting peek into new corners of the universe sure to keep me coming back for more. And then I read the Justice League crossover. To say that these two titles, each with our color-coded Teenagers With Attitude in common, are on opposite ends of the fun spectrum for me would be an understatement. The title of this review suggests a decision must be made about which of the two comic stories rose up to take the crown for this week's best. But let's be honest. Though Justice League / Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #6 has its fans, sending it into the ring with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #19 is a TKO waiting to happen. With sticks o...

If you had told me a few years ago that there would be not one, but two comic book titles based on the Power Rangers brand, each of high quality with a dedicated readership, I would have found it hard to believe. Even now, after pouring through the latest issue of Go Go Power Rangers, the recent addition to the brand's growing family of comics, I find it hard to believe. This is more than a mere trifle thrown together with little effort. It's a touching, sensitive look at the iconic team that started this franchise. I'm not used to this! In Boom! Studios' Go Go Power Rangers, a closer look is taken at the heroes behind the helmet, putting a microscope up to their lives as citizens of Angel Grove, the new battleground only recently invaded by monsters from space, as the Teenagers with ...
