In case word hasn't traveled to your neck of the interwebs just yet, there's somehow a Detective Pikachu movie getting made. What's more amazing is that this flick, based on the popular video game and anime series Pokemon, in which "pocket monsters" battle it out for sport, is starring Ryan Reynolds. As Pikachu. The cartoon rodent-looking thing that generally doesn't say anything but repetitive variations on the syllables of his own name. Even after weeks of information slowly dripping out of the tap on this production, we're still asking if there's any way this could be a really expensive mix-up. Are we getting punk'd? Is getting punk'd still a thing? This question and many others need answering as we countdown to the release on this alleged movie. Ryan Reynolds has been acting his p...

It's Hammer Time. Bringing the Joe Kelly graphic novel to life in splendid form, I Kill Giants summons up a gaggle of monsters ready to ransack the small town young Barbara Thorson (as in "Son of Thor") calls home. Not if she has anything to say about it. A coming-of-age tale set against the imaginative backdrop of monsters and magic, from Danish Academy Award-winning filmmaker Anders Walter, crafting this tale from a script penned by the comic series' original writer Joe Kelly. Any dedicated comic book fan is likely to have come across Kelly's words at some point in their time as readers, as his fingerprints are all over the scene. From Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool over at Marvel, to Superman's Action Comics, Wonder Woman, and Justice League of America. If it flies...

Pacific Rim: Uprising is almost upon us. The bright and sunny sequel to the dark, rain soaked Guillermo Del Toro original is set to rally the troops for an all-out brawl against the other dimensional Kaiju, who have returned to the post-war-torn world believed to have been saved from their monstrous wrath in the last installment. Just like at a top online casino, Alas, too much popcorn is on the line to say goodbye to the giant beasties and their eternal enemies, the robotic Jaegers with their shouty human pilots. Among them this time is John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) who carries the torch after the departure of his character's father, portrayed last time by Idris Elba. Boyega leads a cast of mostly fresh faces including Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, and Adria Arjo...

Power Rangers Dino Thunder fans have something new to sonic scream about as actress Emma Lahana, best known to Power Rangers nerds as the high school rocker chick turned Yellow Ranger Kira Ford, has just landed a role on the upcoming Marvel series Cloak & Dagger. Disney's newly-branded cable television channel Freeform is set to launch this young adult-oriented superhero series based on the comic book of the same name. The singer/actress took to Twitter herself to relay the news, though we have yet to learn whether or not she'll be suiting up as another costumed heroine. Couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the @Marvel universe! I can’t give you guys the details of my character just yet ;) but I hope you love her as much as I do. Cloak & Dagger follows the story of tw...

The interwebs can be a dark and tumultuous place, but every once in a while, you can find something to make you smile. Case in point: This little diddy from Youtuber Juan Ignacio Monzon, who provides a marvelous mash-up of two heroes who bear the same name (and a bit more). I'm speaking, of course, of Spider-Man. The classic Marvel Comics superhero brought to life (for, like, the fifth time) in 2017's blockbuster film Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland as the titular high school crimefighter. He comes to us years after another version of the red-and-blue hero swung onto our screens: the 1978 television series Spider-Man (or Supaidaman, if you prefer), starring Todo Shinji as an entirely different alter-ego to the one Marvel readers were used to at the time. Following a landm...

The Jurassic Park franchise, like the prehistoric beasts that terrorize increasingly dumb humans in these films, refuses to die. With this in mind, the monstrously lucrative Jurassic World emerged, bursting free from its genetically-engineered egg, created in a lab by a committee of people dedicated to give the masses what they kinda-maybe-sorta wanted. And, despite the unmitigated disaster that ensued upon the release of these monsters (and that's just the critical response to the movie!), the powers that be called for another sequel in this unending journey down the reptilian throat of the T-Rex. At some point, we've got to reach the stomach acid that ends us for good, but I'm guessing that may not be for a while. In the meantime, here's a trailer. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom see...

Here's a new promotional video for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to the original post-apocalyptic monster movie where humanity must fight off extinction with the enormous war machines known as Jaegers. John Boyega of Star Wars: The Last Jedi leads the cast of world-saving pilots, but one actor that was curiously left out of much of the movie's footage shown so far was Rinko Kikuchi, whose integral character had been a welcome presence in the first Pacific Rim and whose absence was sorely felt by this viewer when the sequel began rolling out promo for its 2018 release. Right off the bat, director Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel's Daredevil series), who takes the reigns from creative maestro Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water) for this entry, namechecks some of the godfathers of toku...

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War promises to be the largest collection of iconic, larger-than-life heroes the landscape of live-action cinema has ever seen. But what if things had been just a little bit different? What if the world needed saving not by the cape-flapping, shield-tossing likes of the Avengers, but by some other Disney icons? We all know their names. We hear their footsteps and tremble. Straight out of the vault, they've begun their march toward victory against the terror of Thanos and his horde of deadly minions. It's the Walt Disney cartoons! And they're here to do some avenging. For the five people left alive who haven't seen it, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropped last week and quickly broke records on streaming giant Youtube for the most views in the sh...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to crack in two, as the first official trailer for Avengers: Infinity War has just dropped, and with it, a cavalcade of exciting revelations. The nineteenth feature film in the expansive interconnected comic book landscape that is the MCU promises their biggest adventure yet, and it's all hands on deck as the heroes from every corner of this colorful universe are showing up to lend a hand. After this (and the next Avengers film, which serves as a direct follow-up to Infinity War), Marvel Studios claims the world they've built up in the years since 2008's humble hit Iron Man will be changed forever. I'll believe that when I see it, but until then, we can feast our eyes on one of the biggest collection of superheroes ever brought to the big screen....

Fukuide Kei is back with a fiery vengeance in the latest episodes of Ultraman Geed. After recent adventures saw him stumbling through the streets as a penniless vagrant, things weren't looking so hot for the dark Ultraman Belial's dutiful underling. Despite the big red guy having treated him like utter crap, Kei's not taking his boss' apparent demise very well. Meanwhile, the growing sentience of Geed's supercomputer may become a problem in the days ahead for the young master Asakura Riku as he locks horns with Kei once again. A series of ridiculously convenient coincidences all line up back-to-back, as Laiha and Riku happen to be near a TV as the news services report on Kei's disappearance and suspected murder of his editor a while back (when people thought he was just some random ...
