It's funny. I started out reviewing Kamen Rider Build under the assumption that, at some point, it would be less necessary to discuss each episode of the series on an individual basis. Like with most entries into the Kamen Rider franchise (to say nothing of its counterparts in Super Sentai), I expected that we'd eventually reach a point where installments would feel less substantial and thus, waiting a while between reviews would make perfect sense. Nope! Kamen Rider Build has consistently flipped the script on our expectations, bringing new and exciting twists on its narrative week after week, leaving very little room for its fans to lose interest as we barrel through toward the finish line. Before the show's brief hiatus, we were left on a cliffhanger that spelled potential doom for...

Emergency! POWER RANGERS’ Chris Violette Returns to STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

Power Rangers fans who tuned into the premiere episode of the new Star Trek: Discovery got a surprise late last year when one of their own from the spandex-sheathed superhero saga appeared aboard the bridge of the USS Shenzhou as a Starfleet Officer. Chris Violette, known best to many of us here at Henshin Justice Unlimited as Blue Ranger Sky Tate from Power Rangers SPD, had a guest-starring role on the 2017 space opera, as an officer in the star-spanning United Federation of Planets. Not the biggest leap from his job aboard SPD, where he was also a man in uniform, fighting to protect the innocent from the weird and wondrous alien threats of the future. We hoped we might see Violette again on Discovery, but after the events of its two-part opener, many believed we had closed the book on ...

Every card-carrying Super Sentai fan can rejoice, as the first major glimpse at the newest in the long-running super-team franchise has dropped. The latest series, Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger is poised to dazzle viewers new and old alike, as the first of its kind to feature two brand new groups of transforming heroes battling it out in this weekly special effects action extravaganza. And so far, it's not looking too shabby. The brief video opens with the dashing LupinRed, leader of the roguish band of thieves known as Lupinranger, carrying a card-like item, tossing it toward the screen, signaling the start of the visual feast that follows. Not a single human face among them so far, the six heroes we can expect to see in the show's opening episodes are buttin...

Senkosha Productions is celebrating sixty years of justice with the anniversaries of some of the tokusatsu subgenre's pioneering superstars, who paved the way for the many heroic stories to follow decades after their inception. Among them are the classic superhero shows Moonlight Mask and Planet Prince, as well as the mecha series Super Robot Red Baron. 1958's black-and-white Moonlight Mask series was hailed as one of Japan's first live-action television superheroes. His identity never truly revealed (though heavily implied with the constant disappearing acts played by lead character Iwai Juro, conveniently absent when the title hero shows up to save the day), his adventures took him across 130 episodes and 6 movies. Within this massive tome of stories was TV's first famed kaiju, the ...

In 1979, four years after the last live-action Ultraman series had left the airwaves, Tsuburaya Productions decided to take their giant hero franchise into a new arena with The☆Ultraman, the first animated entry into the beloved Ultra Series. Now, for the first time, US audiences will be able to catch the show on television, thanks to the fine folks at TOKU. Continuing to kick giant monster ass, after airing such titles as Ultraman Leo and Gridman: The Hyper Agent in recent months, the TOKU channel has made itself a destination for fun, nostalgic film and television offerings in the imaginative tokusatsu subgenre. The☆Ultraman represents the next step on their apparent quest to get everything the kaiju kings at Tsuburaya have ever produced on American TV. This news comes to us ...

Ultraman Geed, the 29th incarnation of the long-running Ultra Series, has ended. And as we await Tsuburaya Productions' next entry into the ongoing kaiju-fighting super-franchise, we thought it might be fun to take a look back on the 2017 story with a handy collection. We've amassed quite a lot of pictures from the giant hero series, after spending the last several months posting reviews, slowly recapping much of Team Geed's adventures as they fought to protect their world from otherworldly threats. Here's a sampling of the images we've been holding onto, most of which were never included in our many previous Ultraman Geed posts. In the gulf between the start of this new year and the eventual announcement of the new series which will ultimately succeed Geed, we have the upcoming G...

Infini-T Force takes the next step in its continuing adventures, reintroducing a beloved character from the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman series, whose awesomeness can clearly only be contained by the sheer enormity of a movie theater screen. Tatsunoko Productions' television crossover event, combining the universes of four of their classic animated hero series into a single narrative, Infini-T Force has summoned up the lead characters of Gatchaman, Hurricane Polimar, Tekkaman, and Casshan, dropping them into a unified battle against evil, but until now, few of their former allies have been allowed more than a passing mention. Joe the Condor makes his triumphant return in 3D animated glory with the upcoming Infini-T Force: Farewell Gatchaman, My Friend. And with a title as ominous as t...

Gridman: The Hyper Agent is back in more ways than one. Tsuburaya Productions' digital monster-fighting superhero was announced to get his own time slot on American television, then an even bigger surprise was sprung on us- SSSS.GRIDMAN, the new anime reimagining of the original Gridman was coming in the fall of 2018. Now, an official promotional video has dropped for the Hyper Agent Blu-ray, now presenting as a prelude to the upcoming animated take. Gridman served as the source material for the US adaptation, Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, in which a group of high school kids faced Mega-Virus monsters in a digital battlefield to protect the world from electronic peril. If you were a youngling in the early 90s, you might find one or two nostalgic moments in this brief reminder. Parti...

Update: A new image has revealed the suits and weapons of the teams, found at the end of our original post below. It's a new day for fans of the long-running Super Sentai franchise, as word trickles slowly down the superpowered pike that those lovable, multi-colored hero teams are getting a makeover for their 42nd entry into the television saga. I thought the star-spanning quest of 2017's Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger was an interesting departure, with its enormous team of twelve protagonists fighting to save a future universe from an oppressive empire, but it seems Toei Company and TV Asahi are doubling down on that idea and giving us a story with not one, but two teams in a single series. Not only that, but these teams are being set against each other as enemies and rivals. The official ti...
