Toy Review: KAMEN RIDER BUILD SODO Figures Wave 5

Kamen Rider, Reviews, Toku, Toys
SODO set 5 makes a huge comeback after the lackluster set 4 for the Kamen Rider Build series. We have the return to form with 3 full figures (4 if you count the re-release of Night Rogue but I already have him from set 2 so we'll only be focusing on the new figures). First up, we have PhoenixRobo and RabbitTank Sparkling. These guys are fairly standard figures, though that's not a bad thing. Both have excellent detail, articulation, roughly the same amount of stickers, and they both maintain the body swap gimmick. Build's Sparkling form only has one slight deviation from the norm, being a fully painted face that is also one solid piece unable to split up while the rest of him can. Cross Charge, however, is a completely new type of figure to this line. Also split into 2 boxes, Cros...

Toy Review: KAMEN RIDER BUILD DX Hazard Trigger, Smartphone Wolf & Unicorn Eraser Full Bottle Sets

Kamen Rider, Reviews, Toku, Toys
The new power-up item introduced in the Kamen Rider Build TV series is the Hazard Trigger. This device allows Build to access his Hazard mode as well as utilize other forms later on down the line. The toy itself is pretty cool, turning already existing "Best Matches" into "Super Best Matches" and adding an awesome guitar effect, among others. This item is similar to the Cross Dragon or Rabbit Tank Sparkling in that it tries to make sounds in tandem with the Driver but it does not work well with the aforementioned items, only your basic Full Bottles. That being said, the henshin is the same despite the bottles used and the Hazard Trigger then offers the user 3 different attacks. The Hazard Attack by cranking the handle, the Overflow by pressing the button on the Hazard Trigger again, and ...

Does POWER RANGERS Company Saban Brands Have an Employment Problem?

Since 1993, Saban has dazzled children and parents alike with the exploits of the spandex-clad heroes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and their many, many offshoots which have stretched their reign of dominance over toy aisles and screens across the entertainment landscape. But, for almost as long, we've heard murmurs of discontent about the state of the company that largely shepherded this beloved franchise to prominence. We've often wondered what it was that made this show tick behind the scenes, and why certain creative decisions may have been made in the last few years, which saw a sharp decline in audience reception, ironically a short time after the newly-christened Saban Brands retook the Power Rangers intellectual property from temporary rights-holders Disney. That was 2010. S...

Toy Review: KAMEN RIDER BUILD DX Sclash Driver & DX Twin Breaker

As is standard now, every Kamen Rider series seems to need at least 2 transformation belts. Kamen Rider Build's second one is the Sclush (Sclash) Driver. This is a much more solid toy than I imagined it'd be but as per usual, being a secondary Driver, it has far fewer sounds and can read far fewer Full Bottles than the DX Build Driver. It basically only reads the Dragon, Robot and Crocodile Fullbottles/Jellys giving them both a henshin sound and a finisher. Other than that, this thing only reads the remaining Fullbottles as "organic" or "inorganic". Surprisingly though, this Driver comes with both Jellys for Cross Charge and Grease (Rogues will be released next month) so for the most part it's a solid single purchase instead of the DX Build Driver that requires more and more Fullbottles ...

Toy Review: KAMEN RIDER BUILD DX Phoenix Robo Full Bottle Set

Reviews, Toku, Toys
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final is the latest installment in the world of Kamen Rider movies. Of course, now that Kamen Rider Build is out, he is our main protagonist, and on top of that, as is standard for these movies, he receives a movie-exclusive form (though it's rumored to perhaps be appearing in the show this month). That form is PheonixRobo, made up of course by the Phoenix and Robot Full Bottles. This set is fairly standard - if you like the gimmick, it continues the trend of being a solid pick up, though this set does do one thing differently. The images on the Full Bottles are not only sculpted in but painted in their respective colors as well making them, aesthetically, the best-looking Full Bottles thus far. I definitely wish all of the Full Bottles had this detail. ...

Toy Review: KAMEN RIDER BUILD SODO Figures Wave 4

Reviews, Toku, Toys
Kamen Rider Build's fourth entrance into the SODO toy line is probably its least exciting yet, though still not bad. Set 4 decides to drop the potential RabbitTank Sparkling figure (bumping it to set 5) in favor of Build's bike....... Yay? This leave us with only 2 new Build forms: KaizokuRessha and OctopusLight. In fairness, none of these figures are bad, in fact KaizokuRessha is the most complicated to sticker so far, but the lack of a third form or Rider does leave the wave feeling a bit light for your money. Overall, despite it being Build's weakest wave, it's still miles away from being bad, by any means. All the figures here are solid and the bike, while not personally for me, is very good and show-accurate and looks great when ridden on by Kamen Riders Build or Cross-Z. This line ...

Kamen Rider Build's first major upgrade form is Rabbit Tank Sparkling! The show's toy line celebrates this new form with one of its first deviations from the standard Full Bottle gimmick. This "soda can" functions similarly to the Cross Dragon, having its own lights and sounds that work in tandem with the Build Driver to make its own unique henshin and finisher. The jingle is awesome and the light effects are incredible. This item feels powerful compared to the Full Bottles, and the sounds enhance that feeling. It's also nice to have a unique finishing sound for a change. Overall, this is a must own for anyone who has the DX Build Driver. Its a great toy and a nice change from the standard gimmick, plus it has some interactive functionality with future toys being released (but more on...

The Kamen Rider Build TV series is far from done with their collectible toys, the Full Bottles, but rounding it out at number 19 and 20, the last Full Bottles from Touto, we have Octopus and Light. This set is as solid as all the rest. If you like the past Bottles, you'll like these. The sound effects are solid and if you've collected them all then these are a must for filling out your Pandora Panels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gteZfQMgKM8 Meanwhile, Build's toy line releases its third Legend Rider set, Friendship & Medal. This set is designed with half the essence of Kamen Rider Fourze and half of Kamen Rider OOO. This makes it an odd choice come checkout. Unlike the past sets for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid and Kamen Rider W, this set requires the HawkGatling and RocketPanda sets as ...

Kamen Rider Build appears to be Rider Kicking butt on the sales charts, if Toys R Us' figures are any indication. The toy vendor juggernaut recently held a poll with shoppers asking them to vote on their favorite items available at their local store, and the results are in. Which Rider item crushed the competition, driving through to the top spot? Was it the HawkGatlinger, Sento's rapid-fire weapon of choice when he wants to deliver some righteous gunkata moves on fleets of robotic adversaries? Or maybe the Transteam Blade proved a cut above the rest, used by the nefarious Night Rogue and his on-again/off-again partner in crime Blood Stalk? Nah, let's go with something a bit more classic. LiveDoor had these results to share, revealing the three most beloved pieces in the Toys R Us cat...

Review: Kamen Rider Build SODO Figures Wave 3

Kamen Rider Build goes 3 for 3 with its SODO toy line, hitting yet another home run. This set is the first one where I highly recommend getting a case, since you will need duplicates. This set consists of 3 and a half figures: Build LionShoubosha form, KeyDragon form, half of Cross-Z and Blood Stark (I still refuse to call him Stalk). Both Cross-Z and KeyDragon require Build's Dragon half to be complete, so to have both figures proudly displayed in your collection, you're gonna need 2 Dragon boxes. Luckily, cases come with 3, so you'll even have an extra, just in case. All the figures are beautifully articulated and the stickers are fantastic. If you use my clear coat nail polish method as well, they'll stay on nice and strong. So again, this is a must own for any Build fan. https://you...
