At long last, he arrives. Ever since the Godzilla franchise branched out, sending the atomic lizard on a rampage through the landscape of animation with Toho Studios' new anime film trilogy, international kaiju fans have wondered when they were going to get a chance to see his first outing, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters for themselves. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Netflix, the Polygon Pictures 3D animated feature makes its way to our screens this January. And here's a nifty new trailer to prove it. https://youtu.be/B-3do2pM4pM Oh my. I think I need a moment. Be right back, rewatching at max volume till my ears bleed. Okay, I'm back. Looks like the film was in good hands with directing duo Shizuno Kobun and Seshita Hiroyuki, along with writer Urobuchi Gen of the tokusat...

Senkosha Productions is celebrating sixty years of justice with the anniversaries of some of the tokusatsu subgenre's pioneering superstars, who paved the way for the many heroic stories to follow decades after their inception. Among them are the classic superhero shows Moonlight Mask and Planet Prince, as well as the mecha series Super Robot Red Baron. 1958's black-and-white Moonlight Mask series was hailed as one of Japan's first live-action television superheroes. His identity never truly revealed (though heavily implied with the constant disappearing acts played by lead character Iwai Juro, conveniently absent when the title hero shows up to save the day), his adventures took him across 130 episodes and 6 movies. Within this massive tome of stories was TV's first famed kaiju, the ...

Take flight with this new Inuyashiki teaser trailer. The upcoming film adapts the popular manga series, in which the title character, an aging salaryman with a dreadfully ordinary life, suddenly becomes extraordinary when a fateful explosion changes everything. But along for the ride is another who has been gifted with the same strange abilities Inuyashiki now possesses. And this guy doesn't share his wholesome philosophy about what to do with the considerable power they now wield. Shenanigans, as they inevitably must, will ensue. Despite the fact that our unlikely lead hero gleefully sings the Astro Boy theme song when he first discovers his gifts, this story may not be quite as bright and happy as it sounds. Writer/illustrator Oku Hiroya's original comic, recently given the anime tr...

Infini-T Force takes the next step in its continuing adventures, reintroducing a beloved character from the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman series, whose awesomeness can clearly only be contained by the sheer enormity of a movie theater screen. Tatsunoko Productions' television crossover event, combining the universes of four of their classic animated hero series into a single narrative, Infini-T Force has summoned up the lead characters of Gatchaman, Hurricane Polimar, Tekkaman, and Casshan, dropping them into a unified battle against evil, but until now, few of their former allies have been allowed more than a passing mention. Joe the Condor makes his triumphant return in 3D animated glory with the upcoming Infini-T Force: Farewell Gatchaman, My Friend. And with a title as ominous as t...

Ladies and gentlemen, he's back. The laughing lunatic Dan Kuroto has returned to make more mischief, ready to take his twisted brand of self-centered devilry to the next level. But the mysterious coroner with indoor sunglasses Kujo Kiriya has a bone to pick with his old nemesis, and it's finally time to reset the score we left them with when the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid television series came to a close. Why bother resolving a storyline when you can have countless follow-ups? It's the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: Another Ending Trilogy Part 3! Swiftly making its way to home media after a brief pit-stop in Japanese theaters, the third and final of these post-series Ex-Aid stories brings back fan-favorite Dan Kuroto, known to many as Dangerous Zombie himself, Kamen Rider Genm, as well as Kujo Kiriya a...

Kamen Rider fans have one more reason to shout at the moon in the coming year, as the first volume to the Kamen Rider W: Fuuto Detectives manga is headed for a Spring release to satisfy all your jazzy, noir-tinted, superheroic needs. Based upon the Kamen Rider W television series, the official sequel from original TV writer Sanjo Riku and artist Satou Masaki has been published in Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine for the past several months, and will now be made available in this collection. Let's take a gander at some potential cover art for the upcoming releases. FuutoKoushiki on Twitter provides the goods: Kamen Rider W: Fuuto Detectives catches up with the "half-boiled" detective Hidari Shotaro and his oddball partner Phillip, each forming one half of the combined crimefi...

Swooping in for another pass, Garo: Red Requiem is here to provide more monster-hunting action to the new year, with this movie adventure from the Garo television franchise. Sentai Filmworks has been taking names with these domestic Blu-ray releases, as it seems western fans can't get enough of Kouga and his crew of demon-slaying allies among the fabled Makai Knights. It was only October when we reported on their last home media title, Garo - Kiba: The Dark Knight. Kraken Releasings' official synopsis sets the stage for their latest: In the ancient war against the monstrous creatures known as Horrors, many Makai Priestesses have fought and died in battle, yet no woman has ever been chosen to wear the mystic armor of the Makai Knights. Kouga, the current bearer of the gold wolf armor ...

KAMEN RIDER BUILD Episode 16: It’s Chess, Not Checkers

Well, that was fast. After the high drama of our last episode in this amazing series, I incorrectly assumed it would take us a moment to regroup before leaping straight back into the business with Acting Prime Minister Himuro Gentoku and his twisted bid for power, after being exposed for the treasonous conspirator that he is. I should have known by now: Kamen Rider Build laughs in the face of such flimsy expectations. Your timeline is too slow for them. They know what they want to do and there's no time like the present to execute. Episode 16 begins exactly where episode 15 ended, with Gentoku being hauled off for his considerable crimes against his own Touto government, until our genius amnesiac hero Kiryuu Sento stops him to ask why the former minister was taunting him in their prio...

So, here we are at the finale of the Ultraman Geed television series. And while there's so much to have loved about this story of the son of a corrupt titan taking his place among vaunted heroes, I can say that my feelings about the show's end, in many ways, mirror the same complicated thoughts evoked by its first few episodes. In recent weeks, the villainous Ultraman Belial returned with a vengeance, revealing himself to have been secretly watching his follower, Fukuide Kei, long since his supposed demise at the hands of Ultraman Geed. Kei took the news pretty well, considering the absolute torture his master put him through, giving him no sympathy and pretty much telling him straight to his face how little he means to him. Kei is a villain of a special breed. It's rare to have such ...

POWER RANGERS Alum Morphs into Oscar Isaac in STAR WARS Video: FINN & POE

Is this the closest we'll get to a lead actor from the Power Rangers television franchise featuring in Star Wars? If so, I'll take it! The Library Bards have been serenading Youtube with their nerd-centric music videos for the past few years, sending up a number of favorites in the world of geekdom. Now, they present to us their take on two characters in the recent smash hits Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The characters in question being that former Storm Trooper and the ace pilot who named him, Finn and Poe Dameron, played respectively by John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. But some among the Power Rangers fandom will get an extra treat, as the role of Poe is played here by Azim Rizk, who alternated between the Black and Green Ranger (there's a simple explanatio...
