Broadcast Gamer: 2006 Year in Review!!!

9 01 2007

null

2006 was an incredible year for video games. I scored my first DS and then what I feel is my greatest video game system since the Dreamcast… the Nintendo DS Lite! Thanks to this little innovative gadget, I’ve finally gotten back into the gaming saddle and have been jamming pretty regularly. Right now I’m rockin the hell out of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

And then there was the Nintendo Wii which has stepped up out of nowhere to revolutionize the way video games are precieved, played and basically rules parties with the wave of a magic wand.

Even more relevant to us, I hear there’s a certain Kamen Rider Kabuto Game that’s also been kicking major amounts of butt.

To close out this phenomenal year of gaming, our friends over at Broadcast Gamer have put together a phenomenal show. The host, MC Wilson teams up with former legendary EGM Editor, Trickman Terry, and they go over all of 2006’s ups, downs, successes, failures, innovations and straight out awesomeness. Click here to get the latest episode and enjoy. 2007 will no doubt kick even more ass. :D

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Site & a Little Off-Topic Goodness

5 01 2007

While it doesn’t confirm anything like us actually getting a series yet or a theatrical release, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight does have an official site up that you can find here. I’m thinking in February we should start seeing more news begin to drop.

Otherwise, we’re all just maxin’ and relaxin’… chillaxin’, if you will, in the forums talking about What Games Would You Like to Beat in 2007? Mine are mostly games from a good 2 or 3 years ago, but still ones I’d like to get my money’s worth out of. I should probably add Kingdom Hearts to that list, since I am at the end of it. A game for my beloved Nintendo DS coming out this year that I’ve my sights on is still, Lunar Knights, from Hideo Kojima.

Lastly to add to the off topic stuffnjunk is the movie that, so far, I am most looking forward to this year. The 300… it’s supposedly a true story from Frank Miller about 300 Spartan soldiers that held a pass in some long lost moutain range against thousands upon millions of enemy soldiers. So… pretty much the most manly film of the decade. O__O If you don’t believe me, check out this killer trailer and with that.. enjoy the weekend.

See you on the otherside. ^__-

4 01 2007

null

Series details are out there. Word has it that PR kicks into Overdrive on Toon Disney, Monday, Feb. 26 in a 2 Part Premiere at 8:00 p.m.

Credit goes to Kyl416 and Funaroboard.

In the unprecedented 15th incarnation of the hit franchise, “Operation Overdrive” chronicles the adventures of five brave teens on an exciting global treasure hunt filled with mind-crunching puzzles to decode, action, adventure and spectacular battles, on a quest to find the “Corona Aurora,” a crown said to bestow ultimate power to the wearer. Dark forces from the past awaken and search for the missing crown, which is encrusted with five magnificent jewels from seven galaxies, which will make evil unstoppable. The jewels must be found and secured or evil will wear the Corona Aurora. Our world and the entire universe’s fate rests in the hands of “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.”

Geared towards boys 3-8 and has a parental guide of TV-Y7-FV, “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive” is produced by Ranger Productions Ltd.

While on an archeological excursion in Africa, billionaire/adventurer Andrew Hartford unearthed the crown portion of what he believes is the Corona Aurora. The jewels of the crown were missing from the corona. Upon returning home, Standish is visited by the crown’s ghostly Templar Knight who assured him he has found the crown, but in doing so he was now responsible for protecting it. If the crown falls into the wrong hands, it can mean disaster not only for Earth but the entire universe.

Now Hartford must scour the globe and find the five jewels that were scattered across the Pangea many eons before man even existed. He uses his intelligence and wealth to construct the technology and machinery, including morphing Trackers, which he entrusts to an elite team of specialists to track down the jewels and save the universe. He assembles Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.

The team consists of Hartford’s excitable and impetuous son, Mackenzie or Mack, who grabbed the Tracker to become a ranger and live out his dreams of adventure. Mack, the Red Ranger, possesses superior strength. While Rose, the Pink Ranger, can become invisible, she is a certified Mensa Genius and child prodigy who enjoys poetry but needs to work on her social skills – something she can’t learn in a book. Will, the Black Ranger, is a suave, sophisticated ladies man, ala a younger version of James Bond, who appreciates the finer things in life. The Black Ranger possesses super sight and hearing. Ronny, the Yellow Ranger, is a top race car driver in a male-dominated field, but can hold her own when dealing with the boys. Her enhancement is super speed. Dax, the Blue Ranger is the best international stuntman in the business; with elastic bounce abilities as his genetic enhancement, he can take his stunt work to a whole new level.

As the five teens set out to find the five jewels and defeat those evil doers bent on destroying the universe, it’s safe to know that the Power Rangers fight for what’s right, honest and good. They’re the heroes – “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.”

Starring are newcomer James Maclurcan as Mack/the Red Ranger; Rhoda Montemayor (”Finding Neverland”) as Rose/the Pink Ranger; Samuell Benta (”Re-Born”) as Will/the Black Ranger; newcomer Caitlin Murphy as Ronny/the Yellow Ranger and Gareth Yuen (”Ponderosa”) as Dax/the Blue Ranger.

Bruce Kalish (Disney’s “The Famous Jett Jackson”) and Koichi Sakamoto serve as executive producers and Janine Dickins is the producer. “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive” is produced by Rangers Productions Ltd and films on location in Auckland, New Zealand.

Sorry guys! False alarm on the fake GekiRangers. I’ve no idea who they are and I for one and damn glad those aren’t the faces of our heroes in 2007. But it looks like these guys are the real deal and the fighters of tomorrow.

The story of Gekiranger features two opposing sides of the same school of martial arts, the Juuken style, which allows one to control the anguish in their minds. The good form of Beast-Fist style is known as Geki Juuken Beast Arts , Geki Jūken Bīsuto Ātsu?, Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts) and is taught by Master Shā Fū. The evil form of the Beast-Fist style is known as Rin Juuken Akugata (Overlooking Beast-Fist Evil Style) and they are commanded by the Rin Juu Lord (Overlooking Beast Lord). To fight the opposing school, Shā Fū chooses three of his students: Jan Kandou, Ran Uzaki, and Retsu Fukami. Becoming the Gekirangers, they confront the Rin Juuken school.

And here’s a breakdown of the crew that’ll be bringing it, courtesy of THE Shougo B’Stard:

Creator: Saburou Hatte

Hideaki Tsukada (Toei producer; chief producer of Dekaranger and Magiranger)
Kouichi Yada (Toei Agency)

Chief writer: Michiko Yokote (she’s written fillers for Dekaranger and Magiranger; some of her Deka ones weren’t too bad. Judge for yourself how you think Gekiranger might shape up.

Skull Man the Anime

28 12 2006

null

If Kamen Rider were to have a dark and older brother, he would be… The Skull Man. While Kamen Rider was in development in 1970 by Shotaro Ishinomori, The Skull Man was born. Too dark and sinister for a kids show, Ishinomori splintered the character off and made him into his own manga, while Kamen Rider went ahead to forge his own path of justice. The Skull Man was later reborn and released in a collaboration between Ishinomori and his protege`, Kazuhiko Shimamoto in 1998, which you can actuall score here in the US, courtesy of TokyoPop.

And now an anime is coming down the pipe. Little is known, but the website has been launched. More as it breaks, so stay tuned to your local Justice Channel.

Kamen Rider Den-O - Series Details

26 12 2006

null

Looks like some details have surfaced about the upcoming KR Series. First off we have creator credits. The most notable being the return of Yasuko Kobayashi, the woman behind TimeRanger and Kamen Rider Ryuki, so either bow your head in anguish or raise your fists up and rejoice!

Here’s the breakdown, courtesy of The B’Stard:

“Creator: Shotaro Ishinomori

Chief writer: Yasuko Kobayashi (chief writer of Ryuki; also Gingaman & Timeranger)

Producers: Atsushi Kaji (TV Asahi producer, worked on Kabuto, Hibiki; Shin’ichirou Shirakura (producer of Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Kabuto and was replacement producer on Hibiki); Naomi Takebe

Action director: Takeshi Miyazaki (action director of Ryuki through Kabuto)

SFX director: Hiroshi Butsuda (SFX director of pretty much every Toei toku since ‘90)

Chief director: Ryuta Tasaki (chief director of Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, and Sh15uya. Also directed episodes of Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, and Kamen Rider Kabuto. Directed Rider movies Project G4, Episode Final, and Paradise Lost).

Creature designs: Yasushi Nirasawa (designer of Blade’s Undeads and Kabuto’s Worms)”

Next up we got some description translations of the first couple episodes, courtesy of Filadelfo:

“An unlucky photographer. With his own invention, the celloscope (or zero scope, I’m not sure) he is the first to discover the gate to the Kaima (Commanding Demon) World.

The world’s unluckiest cameraman. No matter what, everything he does turns out bad. He lives with a policy of “One-day-one-good action” and can’t leave someone in trouble if he can do something, the typical nice guy.
After a strange concidence he gets possesed by a monster and his luck gets even worse…
His favourite food are peaches.

Episode 1 (Janurary 28)
Rushing reporter Noue Yoshitaro. Looking for the truth behind a lie he snuck into the subway station after the last train left and what he found there was two strange beings fighting and a train he had never seen, the Super Train Den Liner. Yoshitaro got into the middle of the fight and ran into the Den Liner to escape; there, a voice informed him about what was going on. Then Yoshitaro received a boarding ticket for the Den Liner.

Episode 2 (February 4)
Yoshitaro, who had been merged with one of the beings got off the Grand Liner and ran. Convincing himself that everything was a dream, Yoshitaro finds that his only family, his grandparents have vanished and his sempai, Kaori Isagi has been kidnapped by a monster. Having no means to go after the monster and running out of ideas, Yoshitaro decides and passes his ticket to summon the Den Liner.

Episode 3 (February 11)
After saving Kaori, everything is solved and the normal everyday is back, or so would think Yoshitaro when he again finds himself between two Imagines. Just as the last time, the two Imagines start to fight. The Imagine holding a big axe seems to have some information and has a very hard fight against the bear-shaped Imagine. Yoshitaro transforms into Den-O and assists the axe-holding Imagine in fight.”

This sounds pretty cool, but I’m gonna miss Kabuto sooooo much… :(

Merry Christmas: Kamen Rider Dragon Knight… TRAILER!!!

24 12 2006

It looks like Christmas came early this year, cuz we got a leaked trailer for the KR Dragon Knight pilot that’s being put together by Steve Wang and his band of heroes.

Now, make note… this is not an official trailer. You can tell from that lil’ time stamp thingie and I’m pretty sure that the sound and music are not the final that’ll be used. This is to show investors so that we can finally get a full blown show put out here in the Western countries. It probably won’t be online for long once the Powers That Be find out about it, so check it out as soon as you can. From what I’ve seen, goddamn does this look nice! Definately a far cry from the 90’s Masked Rider with a focus on action and epic story telling (no Ferbus! Yay!). This is our first shot to get Kamen Rider back in America and done right. Click and enjoy and show your support.

Only you and the Mirror Knights stand in the way of General Zaviax and his coming horde. Heaven help those who come in our way. O__O
