HJU Triple Feature: Youmacon Adventures Pt. 1, GameCenter CX: Ultraman, and the TFL Video Game Awards!

25 01 2008

Gotta make this quick, cuz I gotta roll out soon into the long dark knight of a Madison winter. The first vid is courtesy of my homie, the Lazer Lord, and is the first part of our adventure in the far off lands of Michigan while we attended the awesome-tastic, Youmacon. Next up is brought to us courtesy of TV Nihon, and is that GameCenter CX show that Gaijinder told us about waaaaay back. In this episode, he rocks Ultraman for what looks like the Super Nintendo. And last but FAR from least is the video game awards show brought to you by the boys of Team Fremont Live. You HAVE to see it. While it has the HUGE AND GLARING omission of HJU’s beloved blockbuster, Mass fucking Effect, the rest of it incredibly entertaining and hilarious… even if it is a little PS3 heavy. Click on, enjoy the shows, and enjoy the weekend!

FRIDAY ACE: “The Twenty-Second” Edition - Week of 1/20/08

25 01 2008

Before we go on, here’s last year’s theme to the occasion to which this edition of Friday ACE is dedicated.

As of this Sunday, I will be 22 years old. 22 years of walking this troubled planet and it’s convention wastelands and making it back in one piece to blow out the candles on the cake. I’ll be out of town celebrating the festivities with a friend of mine but even though there’s the promise of seeing Rambo on opening day, I still wish I could do what this guy did for his movie trailer.

sonna_mucha_na.jpg

This is Sakichi Sato. You may recognize him as Charlie Brown in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Others know him as the screenwriter for Gozu and Ichi The Killer and for directing Tokyo Zombie.

Anyways, click the pic to see the Greatest Movie Trailer of 2008 which consists of him being surrounded by cameras and screaming the synopsis of his forthcoming anthology film, “Sonna Mucha Na!!” (lit. That’s So Stupid!!). I can only dream of being able to get away with that for an R5 Central promo.

Anyways, it’ll be slightly shorter than usual as I’m preparing for transit to said vacation but nevertheless, here is this week’s Friday ACE!

22 years later, present day.
Another day comes, and the strange man with a mask and glasses, Wataru, collects fish bones from the fish dealer. Apparently this is part of the reason he can’t interact with anyone and the local housewives call him “Obaketarou of the Haunted House” (Obake = Ghost).

The Danger Boy vs. Transformers: the War Within… “Animated!”

22 01 2008

This here is a collaborative creation between myself and an old friend that goes by the name, Savory Cade. In high school we had all these stories we created based around myself and my friends. Before there ever was a Rival Schools, there was Billy Shank the Danger Boy and the Heroes of Verona High. Damn good times. The transformation sequences of the Danger Boy, Overdrive and Kid Doppler were actually come up with over dinner in a mall. Our brains stormed, we laughed, and I even remember us coming up with the detail of Kid Doppler always having a little bruise on his forehead because of all the crush charges he smashed into his forehead to used in battle. My friend went on into college and this was his masterpiece. Long after he’d moved on, his college professor continued to present this creation of Cade’s to show off what the students could accomplish if they put their minds to it.

Each of these characters, except Aqua, has a person behind it and a story to go along with each of their little details. Even Overdrive’s lime green t-shirt has a story that maybe I’ll tell of another day.

After the jump you’ll see a fan created “animated” telling of the blockbuster and ground breaking Transformer saga, “The War Within” from Transformer comic legends, Simon Furman and Don Figueroa, brought to you from the blokes over at TFCog.Net. Said to have been downloaded already 2,000 times, you get to watch it with the click of a button right after the break.

And now thanks to the efforts of Elite Justice Fansubs, we can see the story how it was originally told.

FRIDAY ACE: “Attack of the Logos!!” Edition - Week of 1/13/08

18 01 2008

OMG! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES GUYS! IT’S THE LOGOS!

Believe it or not, people have admitted to being freaked out by these logos when they were kids. At first it just seemed like one of those things that maybe it was kinda creepy when you were younger that you just laugh about now, that was until I actually sat through the montage and I was left scratching my head as to why and how the logos for Random House, the BBC, and That Typewriter Guy suddenly became the thing of nightmares.

Beats the daylights out of me. Besides, the time I could spend wondering how this Logophobia actually works is time better spent delivering this week’s Friday ACE!
