Monsters Director Gareth Edwards Confirmed for Legendary's Godzilla

Gareth Edwards, the British writer-director behind the low-budget indie film Monsters, was confirmed as director of Legendary Pictures’ upcoming American Godzilla remake, according to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter. Legendary and Warner Bros. were set to co-produce, co-finance, and co-distribute the film, having acquired the rights from Toho in March 2010.

David Callaham, previously attached to write the script, was reported to no longer be involved in the project. The film was targeting a 2012 release at the time of the announcement, a date that would later shift as the production, eventually released in 2014, took shape.
