Interview: Sota Fukushi and Ryo Yoshizawa on Kamen Rider Fourze

In an interview published in Hyper Hobby, actors Sota Fukushi and Ryo Yoshizawa, who played Kamen Rider Fourze and Kamen Rider Meteor respectively, discussed their working relationship and reflected on the series.

Both described hitting it off quickly on set despite Yoshizawa calling himself shy; he said Fukushi’s easygoing first greeting put him at ease, while Fukushi remembered being struck by how serious and “cool” Yoshizawa seemed at their first meeting, in contrast to how playful he actually turned out to be. Each actor said the other stood out most among the show’s large cast, and the pair traded stories from set, including a running joke about a shared meal of tsukemen noodles a few months into filming.

Yoshizawa said he had watched Fourze from its first episode before joining the cast and was struck by how different the show’s tone was from prior Kamen Rider series, from the school setting to Fourze’s many switch-based weapons and its “It’s Space Time!” catchphrase; both actors singled out the transformation pose and its countdown as a favorite element. Fukushi said Meteor’s Jeet Kune Do-inspired fighting style impressed him from Meteor’s first appearance, while Yoshizawa admitted his ADR dialogue recording sessions took longer to get used to than Fukushi’s did.

Asked which aired episode left the strongest impression, both cited episode 18, in which Ryusei punches Gentaro in the face, calling it the moment Ryusei’s true self came through. Fukushi also mentioned an ongoing behind-the-scenes joke in which cast member Fumika Yuki would tell the actors to quiet down between takes.

Closing the interview, the two exchanged encouragement about continuing to work well together, and said they hoped for a scene where Fourze and Meteor transform simultaneously on screen, something Yoshizawa noted was complicated by Ryusei’s identity as Meteor still being a secret within the story. Both pointed viewers toward episodes 25 and 26, describing them as an emotional stretch tied to supporting characters Miu and Shun approaching graduation.
