Full Trailer Released for Noboru Iguchi's Nuigulumar Z: Gothic Lolita Battle Bear

Cult filmmaker Noboru Iguchi released the full trailer for Nuigulumar Z: Gothic Lolita Battle Bear in November 2013, following a festival run that included a Stockholm screening earlier that month. The film, based on a novel and song concept by musician Kenji Ohtsuji, stars television personality and actress Shoko Nakagawa alongside martial artist Rina Takeda, Hiroshi Neko, Mao Ichimichi, and Koto Takagi, ahead of a January 25, 2014 release in Japan.

The story follows Yumeko Ayukawa, a gothic-lolita-fashion enthusiast who can merge with her stuffed teddy bear to become the superheroine Nuigulumar, battling a horde of zombies and a pair of villains across a plot drawing heavily on Japanese tokusatsu conventions. It marked another entry in Iguchi’s long-running run of B-movie genre features, built around practical special effects in the tokusatsu tradition even where it departed from his more typically outrageous comic tone.
