Hiroshi Fujioka Returns for Heisei vs. Showa: Kamen Rider War
Hiroshi Fujioka, the actor and suit performer behind the original Kamen Rider, confirmed his return as Takeshi Hongo for Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider War feat. Super Sentai, the third film in producer Shinichiro Shirakura’s Super Hero Taisen series, written by Shoji Yonemura and directed by Takayuki Shibasaki.
Fujioka first played Hongo in 1971, doing his own stunts for the character’s first ten episodes until a motorcycle accident fractured his leg and shifted his involvement to voice work through the remainder of the original series’ run. The new film, based on the tokusatsu tradition established by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori, brought together roughly thirty Riders spanning the Showa and Heisei eras, including Kamen Rider Faiz actors Kento Handa and Kohei Murakami, Kamen Rider X’s Ryo Hayami, Kamen Rider Decade’s Masahiro Inoue, and Kamen Rider W’s Renn Kiriyama.
The film opened in Japan on March 29, 2014.
