Power Rangers Dino Charge Announced as the Next Season
USA Today announced Power Rangers Dino Charge as the franchise’s next season, ahead of Super Megaforce even airing. Saban Brands confirmed the 22nd season would adapt the Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger footage rather than Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, returning the franchise to a dinosaur theme last used in the original Mighty Morphin and 2004’s Dino Thunder.
Kyoryuger had been a major commercial success in Japan, generating roughly 14 billion yen in toy sales. Saban Brands president Elie Dekel was quoted saying, “we know fans will find this next season larger than life.”
The announced premise: alien-granted Paragon Prisms, entrusted to a dozen dinosaurs for safekeeping, were lost when an asteroid impact wiped the dinosaurs out. In the present day, an intergalactic bounty hunter searches for the Prisms to harness their power, prompting a new team of Power Rangers to form and pursue the Prisms first, fighting with dinosaur-themed weapons, Zords, and Megazords.
Dino Charge was set to debut sometime in 2015. Super Megaforce, the season airing in the interim, was set to premiere on Nickelodeon on February 15, 2014.
