Toei Hero Next Casts Former Super Sentai Actors in Supporting Roles

Casting details for the fourth entry in Toei’s Toei Hero Next film series revealed a supporting cast built substantially from former Super Sentai actors, several playing characters that echoed the Sentai roles that first made them known to tokusatsu audiences. Yumi Sugimoto, previously Miu Sutou, Go-On Silver in Engine Sentai Go-Onger, took the role of Riko Ando, a former stage actress at Gekidan Bazooka who has gone into hiding with a bounty on her head following her mother’s murder, one of the film’s central characters.

The remaining named roles, drawn largely from the same pool of Sentai alumni, were assigned character names that in most cases mirrored the actors’ original Super Sentai personas, continuing a casting pattern the Toei Hero Next series had used in its earlier installments to give its new, non-Sentai stories a built-in audience connection.
