New Macross Series Teased
A brief scene at the end of a rerun of Macross Frontier’s final episode, broadcast in the Kanto region, was reported as a tease for a new entry in the Macross franchise, arriving close to Super Dimensional Fortress Macross’s 32nd anniversary.
The original series was adapted into the U.S. as the first arc of the Robotech trilogy, though the broader Macross franchise, owned by Big West and Studio Nue and distinct from Robotech’s separate Harmony Gold rights, has spanned multiple sequels and films built around music functioning as both weapon and salvation, love-triangle plots, and transforming robots. A minor crossover point with Kamen Rider was also noted: Macross Frontier’s Sheryl Nome was voiced by singer May’n, who also performed music, including the ending theme “Giant Step,” for the band Astronauts on 2012’s Kamen Rider Fourze.
