Japan Sets Ablaze In The New Trailer For Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno!

While Japanese audiences were also catching actor Takeru Satoh in Fuji TV’s action-comedy series Bitter Blood, his bigger project for the year returned to the big screen: a reprised lead role in the sequel chambara thriller Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, playing the reluctant swordsman forced to defend Japan against the “Juppongatana” (Ten Swords), led by a ruthless assassin played by Tatsuya Fujiwara.

The film is the first half of a two-part finale, shot back-to-back the previous year, following the success of the 2012 original Rurouni Kenshin. Both films are based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s manga from Shueisha and directed by Keishi Otomo, who helmed the full trilogy. Warner Bros. Japan released the full trailer, including a version with English subtitles, after two earlier teasers.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno opened in Japanese cinemas on August 1, 2014, ahead of the third film, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, which followed on September 13. The synopsis centers on Shishio Makoto, an assassin once contracted by the government who turned against it after being betrayed; with the stakes raised beyond his earlier fight to protect a single person, Himura Kenshin now has to protect the nation itself.
