Kamen Rider Malus Is the Golden Rider in Gaim's Summer Movie

Kamen Rider Malus Golden Arms was revealed as a movie-exclusive antagonist Rider for the upcoming Kamen Rider Gaim summer film. The character, Kogane, uses the Golden Apple Lock Seed to assume the Golden Arms, an armor design mainly gold with red as a secondary color, based on Kamen Rider Zangetsu’s design with shoulder pads that fold out the same way as Melon Arms; Malus also wields a sword and shield.

Kogane is introduced as a new-generation god whose purpose is to open up a new world, described as the strongest Rider and holder of the golden fruit, positioned as Gaim’s enemy in the film. The role is played by Ainosuke Kataoka, an actor from the Kabuki industry, marking a first for the Kamen Rider franchise; Gaim producer Naomi Takebe said the casting criteria centered on the ability to convey the aura of a god, and the character’s movements incorporate deliberately slow, Kabuki-style motion.

The film’s own title had not yet been announced at the time of the report, with a premiere date of July 19, 2014, alongside the Toqger movie.

The report also corrected an earlier name given for the character: initially reported as Kamen Rider Mars, discussion among readers led to Malus being identified as the more fitting name, since Malus and Mars share the same katakana rendering but Malus refers to a type of apple, matching the character’s fruit-based theme; no official romanization had been confirmed at the time.
