Uchu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad Announced

As Uchu Sentai Kyuranger wound down, Toei announced its next installment in the Space Squad crossover series: Uchu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad, teaming the Kyurangers with two of Toei’s classic Metal Hero characters, Space Sheriff Gavan (Geki Jumonji) and Space Sheriff Shaider (Shu Karasuma). The announcement arrived via a video hosted by the Kyuranger cast on Toei’s official YouTube channel.

The crossover wasn’t a total surprise. Kyuranger had already brushed up against the Space Squad concept in its eighteenth episode, when the team was briefly pulled into a parallel universe to meet Gavan and the heroes of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, an episode that doubled as promotion for the first Space Squad film. The new film was written by Kyuranger series writer Nobuhiro Mori and directed by Koichi Sakamoto, and was released as a V-Cinext title, part of a newer initiative pairing home-video releases with limited theatrical runs. It reached Blu-ray and DVD on August 8, 2018, following theatrical screenings that June.
