That… That's a Star Trek reference for anybody who, uh… Nevermind. The end of Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger comes with a bittersweet quality as we close out on this space adventure television series. Through 48 episodes, the crew of the Orion have traveled the universe righting the wrongs of the oppressive Jark Matter empire, working to save it from the clutches of the ruthless Don Armage. It's an exciting final chapter. Though I can't help but shake this feeling. That, as I look back on the last leg of the journey, some thoughts probably shouldn't be lingering in my mind. Thoughts like "Well, they did a lot better with this negative thing than that other show." As if failing less obviously than a past disappointment should be counted as a positive rather than just a given. Suffice it to say

Twenty episodes in and Kamen Rider Build, the latest in the ongoing Kamen Rider action/adventure franchise, has taken us by storm. To celebrate, we're serving up a look-see at the world of the series through a collection of pretty pictures showcasing the heroes, the villains, and everything in-between as the ride stretches onward. In almost two dozen weeks worth of reviews, detailing the events of this standout series, we've amassed just a few images, most of which never made it into any post on our site, so why not take a gander at the goods, just for (rider) kicks. Every Build review we've done is now linked with its successor, so you can fully catch up on the story while experiencing all the wild speculation, iffy spelling choices, and silly theories in airing order without hav...

Kamen Rider Build is the television series we need but don't deserve. And as we dive further into this exemplary action show, it's got me wondering if one character will die a hero or live long enough to see himself become the villain. This is episode 19. Another week, another twist to add to the ever-mounting pile as the story rolls on. Our last episode was all about #FAMILY, and we were left with Psycho Prime Minister Himuro Gentoku as he came face-to-face with Utsumi, his former secretary whom he had personally shot, suddenly revealing that he is very much alive. After Utsumi briefly butts into the recap narration from poor lead hero Sento (whose dialogue is getting less peppy by the second with all this war business), Gentoku's old buddy simply pushes up his glasses and smiles at ...

Earth of the future has seen better days, as the giant lizard Godzilla has been having his way with the planet for thousands of years while the humans who abandoned it have tried and mostly failed to colonize other, less hellish planets than the one they once called home. This is the premise as we step into Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, the first of an interlocking three-part film story about the atomic beasty and his reign over an apocalyptic world. In Toho Studios' six-decade history with the giant monster and his scaly friends, we've never seen his towering form rendered with animation in a feature before. As a longtime kaiju fan, from witnessing his first terrifying rampage across Tokyo in 1954's Gojira to Legendary's recent Hollywood offering, 2014's Godzilla, I looked forward t...

The battle to save Touto from the fires of war continue on Kamen Rider Build, as genius amnesiac Kiryuu Sento finds he's not the only bug-eyed super-dude without memories running around these days. Last time, Kamen Rider Kiva's Takeda Touhei debuted as the new mystery soldier from neighboring territory Hokuto, leading the charge (in his own lethargic, unmotivated way) into Touto to retrieve the Martian Pandora Box, and the Full Bottles needed to access its immense, unknowable power. Now, he and his three dopey subordinates are ready to butt heads with Sento and Ryuuga to prove their mettle. But first, another recap, as narrated by Sento, though this time we find our sarcastic hero in a surprisingly low-key mood. Recent events have taken the wind out of his sails, but a sudden intrusio...

The Power Rangers comic book saga rolls on with BOOM! Studios' first major event, Power Rangers: Shattered Grid. In which, the beloved books in the series all link up as the villainous Lord Drakkon, ever the sore loser, means to do some damage to the multicolored heroes that defeated him once before. This time, it'll take more than the teenage saviors of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to send him packing. To that end, the ongoing series is recruiting an army of heroes from across the decades-spanning television franchise, many of whom longtime fans have been dying to see since the comic came into being. A breakdown of upcoming issues, along with some exceedingly dope artwork, awaits below. BOOM! sounded the alarm on the crossover extravaganza, putting together heroes from seasons that e...

It's been a wonderful season for tokusatsu. From the colorful, high-flying adventure of Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger to the intense, take-no-prisoners action of Kamen Rider Build, the world of special effects television has rarely been so exciting. And, as we inch closer to the tearful farewell to the spacey super-team of Kyuranger and ramp up toward the introduction of their successors in the upcoming Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs Keisatsu Sentai Patranger, here's a small picture gallery to celebrate the era of these Toei Company heroes. This brief sampling comes courtesy of HeroVision, the tokusatsu-themed publication featuring high-quality images of the stars and assorted memorabilia from their fantastical series, as well as original interviews and commentary from the people who bring the...

Kamen River Kiva is making a comeback. As I clutch my pearls at the thought of it already being a decade since this amazing fantasy action series left the airwaves, Kiva's celebrating its tenth anniversary in style. We've already heard of the new Blu-ray set coming to home video, as well as the introduction of fan-favorite actor Takeda Touhei making his recent debut as a mysterious new superpowered figure in the current series Kamen Rider Build. But why stop there? Surely there's some other way to bring honor to the bat-themed hero and his outrageous circle of friends and rivals as we look back on their wacky adventures together? Well, that's where Kamen Rider The Diner comes in. As previously mentioned, Kamen Rider The Diner has been operating in Ikebukuro, Japan since 2011, serving ...

It's funny. I started out reviewing Kamen Rider Build under the assumption that, at some point, it would be less necessary to discuss each episode of the series on an individual basis. Like with most entries into the Kamen Rider franchise (to say nothing of its counterparts in Super Sentai), I expected that we'd eventually reach a point where installments would feel less substantial and thus, waiting a while between reviews would make perfect sense. Nope! Kamen Rider Build has consistently flipped the script on our expectations, bringing new and exciting twists on its narrative week after week, leaving very little room for its fans to lose interest as we barrel through toward the finish line. Before the show's brief hiatus, we were left on a cliffhanger that spelled potential doom for...

Emergency! POWER RANGERS’ Chris Violette Returns to STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

Power Rangers fans who tuned into the premiere episode of the new Star Trek: Discovery got a surprise late last year when one of their own from the spandex-sheathed superhero saga appeared aboard the bridge of the USS Shenzhou as a Starfleet Officer. Chris Violette, known best to many of us here at Henshin Justice Unlimited as Blue Ranger Sky Tate from Power Rangers SPD, had a guest-starring role on the 2017 space opera, as an officer in the star-spanning United Federation of Planets. Not the biggest leap from his job aboard SPD, where he was also a man in uniform, fighting to protect the innocent from the weird and wondrous alien threats of the future. We hoped we might see Violette again on Discovery, but after the events of its two-part opener, many believed we had closed the book on ...
