Godzilla: Planet Eater, the third and final film in the animated experiment that is Toho's giant monster trilogy is nearly here. And its first imagery insists that we'll get some action with one of the atomic lizard's most fearsome foes, the great King Ghidorah. But it wouldn't be the G-trilogy without some unique spin on the classics, so we'll not be going in expecting the same three-headed space dragon we've known for decades. The anime three-parter's first installment stomped across Japanese cinema screens and international streaming monitors to a mixed array of reactions, ranging from "I loved it", hailing Godzilla: Planet of Monsters as a fresh visionary take, to "I hate it", dismissing it as a failure in concept and execution, and a whole gamut of emotions somewhere between the ...

The fire-breathing lord of lizards is back in live-action form with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the Legendary Pictures production due out next year, and here's a couple pictures from the film to prove it. While the unstoppable kaiju continues his rampage across multiple entertainment platforms at once, including Toho Studios' ongoing animated trilogy, the Legendary sequel to the 2014 franchise-starter is revving up to take the planet by storm, literally. That first film kicked off not only the current western film series for Godzilla, but also a larger continuity known as the MonsterVerse, featuring the likes of King Kong and a number of other classic creatures, paving the way for 2017's Kong: Skull Island, and the next link in the chain following King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs...

It's a new day for kaiju fans. The giant lizard Godzilla is enjoying his biggest time in the sun in years as there are several separate titles with his character and related mythology all actively building toward release, both from Japanese studio and primary rightsholder Toho Studios as well as from the US moviemakers at Legendary Pictures. It's a great time to be alive for anyone with an affinity for giant monsters and the humans who flee in terror from them. Unto that breach, word has come down that Toho will now officially co-finance international film productions with their properties, including animated vehicles like Pokemon, live-action adaptations of anime triumphs like your name, and of course, the King of Monsters himself. Nikkei reports on the three-year deal, which sees To...

Don't sleep on monster movies in 2017. After Godzilla kicked us off a few years ago, with a gentle push from Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Gareth Edwards (Star Wars: Rogue One), a number of new kaiju flicks have begun to rise from the ashes of former obscurity, breathing new life (and atomic breath) into the genre that Hollywood forgot. It may not have seemed like it some short years back, but American cinema was once teeming with giant monster pictures, having contributed to the boom in business early filmmaking in the US once enjoyed. From classics like the original King Kong in 1933 to Godzilla in 1955, and between those two eras a plethora of titanic imitators were born, all trying to recapture the magic of those cinematic beasts. But, while theatrical exploits of these fantas...

THE “JAPANESE GODZILLA” WILL RISE AGAIN! Toho to Produce a New “Godzilla” in 2016

News
Missing: Last seen in GODZILLA FINAL WARS, 2004. SCOOP: It's big and it's terrible, and this incredible news broke just two hours ago in Japan and is spreading like wildfire in Japan. And while I didn’t see this one coming, and some may think it could be a hoax, the announcement was published in the Japanese equivalent of the Wall Street Journal, Nikkei, and the respected movie news website, Eiga.com — I've combined elements from several stories and the translations are my own: Toho Company Ltd. will be producing an all-new Godzilla film to be released in 2016. This will be the first “Domestic Godzilla” in 12 years since GODZILLA FINAL WARS (2004). In a press conference today, Toho announced that they’ve launched the “Godzilla Conference” as an organization to discuss and decide a wide
