... Okay, maybe that title was a little over-the-top, but I just couldn't help myself. Part of me has dreaded tackling this review. As a longtime fan of the Power Rangers franchise, it's not always easy to bring tough criticism to this thing I've loved for years, a huge influence on my life and how I see the world. It's even worse knowing that a number of people may have hoped to hear something quite different from me on this subject, and would be waiting to get my take on such a momentous occasion as this, the 25th Anniversary special episode. Certainly, it'll be an unpopular opinion with some, a few of which I'd count as friends. It's worse even still when one takes into account my opinion of the current season, Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. The brutal truth is that I hesitate...

Everybody's passing out anniversaries this summer. Whether you're a longtime fan of Kamen Rider and hyped for the nostalgic rollercoaster sure to roll out from the latest Kamen Rider Zi-O, or are a fan of their American cousins in live-action, the Power Rangers, it's not the worst time to be someone who can quote whole episodes that aired years ago on command. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Ranger franchise, the current Teenagers with Attitude (or something) and some of their predecessors are meeting up for the sort of adventure that is rather rare these days. At least as far as their television exploits are concerned. We're speaking, naturally, of the special crossover episode of the Nickelodeon and Saban Brands title Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel, which promises to ...

Who says the big, scary monsters always have to take the L? Special-effects action director Kawasaki Minoru disagrees, and in this comedic flick, he sets about telling the tale of a world obsessed with the fictional television heroism of Outer Man. The superhuman giant battles enormous kaiju to save the world from their uncanny evils to the wonderment of adoring tokusatsu fans everywhere, but then something extraordinary happens. Outer Man, who was only a TV character, suddenly appears in the real world. But instead of protecting mankind, he'd rather be a prick and destroy it. The actors of the Outer Man TV show must band together to fight this new menace or die trying. I guess. This wacky premise that sees the heroes transform into a monster to stop the Ultraman-esque figure from wre...

Review: Kamen Rider Build SODO Figures Wave 2

Kamen Rider, Reviews, Toku, Toys
Well, the time has finally come. Wave 2 of the Kamen Rider Build SODO figures is here! Much like wave 1, I'm nitpicking at best to find anything negative to say. This time around, we get 7 boxes and 4 figures instead of the prior 6 boxes and 3 figures. The 4 figures are HawkGatling, NinninComic, RocketPanda and our first villain, Night Rogue. Every figure is excellent in detail, articulation and accuracy, once again I find it very, very difficult to say anything negative about these figures, even the price is great. Overall, once again, these are the best Build figures on the market and I can't recommend them enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX_a8m5W1jk For this and other Kamen Rider and Tokusatsu merchandise, check out CSToys and BigBadToyStore.

Fists are flying in this episode of Kamen Rider Build. After a slightly weaker entry for the previous week, we come back as strong as ever with another fantastic installment in this series that continues to rock my socks. Build, where have you been all my life? Returning us to where we left off, Episode 6 begins with Ryuuga continuing to follow Tatsuya, whom he had deliberately re-infected with Smash essence, turning him back into a brainwashed monster. And wouldn't you know it, we've found the bad guys' lair in the sixth freaking episode of this series, continuing Build's trend of taking the rule book and torching it on a pyre of flaming tropes and modern cliches. Good riddance! After Ryuuga finds himself surrounded, Build comes through with a surprising rescue. Despite getting kn...

Hold onto your Pocky, anime fans. Batman is coming back to the Japanese animation world with an all-new project, descending upon us in 2018. This time, he brings with him a pool of talent that gave us the likes of the animated Afro Samurai as well as the special effects actioner Kamen Rider Fourze. While Batman inches one step closer to his apparent goal of filling every possible screen on every continent at the exact same time, here's a brief rundown of what we know so far. This feature-length anime, titled simply Batman Ninja, is the work of director Mizusaki Junpei, whose talents were brought to several MegaMan X video games before landing a producing gig with the popular JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Joining him is Nakashima Kazuki, best known to some of us as a lead writer f...
